What to Expect in the Tasting Room

  • When lovers of food and wine are looking for the perfect match of fine food and the perfect bottle of wine, part of the total experience, of course, presupposes a smoke-free and an aroma-free environment. Any casual or serious wine tasting requires no smoking and no wearing of perfumes or colognes that would overwhelm the delicate nuance of the wine.

  • We therefore do not allow smoking in our building and request that you refrain from smoking anywhere near our tasting facility. We  also ask that our employees keep after-shave and perfume down to a minimum to maximize your enjoyment and would hope that   you would do the same. (This goes for any tasting room!)

  • As you enter the tasting room head for the tasting area. A host will greet you and get you started with wine glasses and explain what wines are available for tasting.

  • White wines are tasted first, followed by red wines, and then desert wines.

  • Taste each wine carefully and savor each sip. Our tasting rooms will have a sheet of tasting notes. Read the tasting notes as you  taste and see if you notice any of the aromas or flavors listed in the notes.

  • It is okay to skip any of the wines on the tasting list. Some people just want to taste the reds. Some may be interested in tasting only certain varietals of wine.

  • Normally you would not ask for a second taste of one particular wine unless you indicate that you are interested in purchasing the wine. (Technically, a second taste constitutes a “glass” in the eyes of the state and is illegal at a “tasting” bar)

  • You do not have to drink all the wine in your glass. Toss the unwanted wine in your glass into the dump bucket provided for this purpose.

  • Water is provided, and if you like, you may use it to clear your palate or to rinse your glass. Rinsing the glass is a good idea when the tasting moves from whites to reds or to dessert wines.

  • Feel free to bring some neutral food, such as plain crackers. The purpose of the food is to clear the palate after tasting each particular wine.

  • Some wines on our list are in limited supply and we will require that you pay a fee to taste the wine. When a fee is charged, it’s okay for two people to share one glass and pay only one tasting fee.

  • If you are visiting a winery with friends or a group, try not to be too loud or noisy. It can ruin the atmosphere of the tasting room for other patrons. But it’s not a library, so have fun!

  • If you choose to picnic at the winery and enjoy some wine, make sure the wine is not from another winery. (It’s illegal and impolite) If you forgot to bring wine glasses, our tasting room will lend you wine glasses for your picnic. Please do not smoke in the picnic area for the reasons listed above.

  • Bringing children to a winery can be tricky. Have a planned activity for them while you spend your time tasting.
